OK, so I realized a few things this summer. Realized I really needed to get away from Tilburg and Holland for a while. Also realized I can’t keep up with a blog, and happy I didn’t. I had a wicked summer in Boston and was always busy, so was happy that I didn’t try to go looking for the words to explain how everything was going. I did however put some things down on paper and have here the 6 most important things I learned/experienced about the US and its people while I was there.
1. Americans really are the best at marketing. In fact it’s also what they are best at. (Here offcourse I mean marketing in the broader sense). It was always clear they were very good at it, not until I had been there for more than a few days did I really start to understand exactly how good. Whilst I don’t think there is something inherently bad with this, sometimes there just isn’t much substance that comes with all this marketing. Case in point: Whitecastle (hamburgers). For some reason the commercials for this burgerplace just got me. Although my cousin had told me they were shit in buns with ketchup, I really had to get some. …Now that sandwich was shit, but they made that shit look good.
2. American Universities are awesome. Yes you pay waaaay more money, and they’re elitist and all of that, but I truly enjoyed the way they teach. Classes are interactive and engaging which the reason people always show up and truly enjoy them…If I could go back and start University all over, I would have chosen differently…
3. American’s seriously do not understand why the world hates them. Most believe it just comes down to President Bush. Now yes, Bush is hated by pretty much hated outside of the Southern US, but it isn’t him they hate, he’s just the cherry on top
4. American college girls, most of them at least, are kind of skanky…(kind of the reason why we love em so much)
5. Finally, have to say the Americans are damn positive people. Yes, they take things to extremes sometimes, maybe even most of the time… but they just don’t complain as much and try to make things right…very cool to be around…
6. All in all I think the US would be a really nice play to live for a while so don’t be surprised if I try to leave for the US soon..….
